Starting Tango. How I Stumbled Into It.

I’d never really danced… well, except for some serious bopping to Doug Parkinson, Zoot, Town Criers, Russell Morris… you get the picture if you’re from my era 🤪

Could I actually dance? Heck no!

Life got in the way — no lessons as a kid, working from 15, single mum at 18, corporate life… and a partner who didn’t want to dance.

Around 52, I started Salsa. It was fun, social, and I met amazing people (some now part of the Melbourne tango community). The teacher also taught tango, but the music?

Funeral music! So somber. How could anyone like it?

Then one night, I saw a tango danced at a Salsa social. I loved what I saw, disliked what I heard.

My friend Jim explained it’s different when you dance it, not just listen.

Being a Taurus, of course I said: No. No. No.🙄 But curiosity won.

I went to my first tango class… and I was hooked.

Bye bye Salsa. Helloooo Tango.

I’ve never regretted it.

My blood type? Tango… with a touch of coffee.

I cannot imagine my life without it.

Keep it simple. Keep it connected.
